A few EOS questions...

So now I'm programming a decent size show on the EOS I wonder if anyone can enlighten me on how to achieve the following things:

1.) I have a very basic step based effect, which is applied to a couple of channels in a cue. The effect stops with the next cue where the channels are plotted with a zero value. I would love to fade out the effect over the same time as the Cue. Currently I am doing this with an exit time on the FX matching the cue time. However what happens if I want to use the same FX in multiple cues with different out times? Do I have to create several effects with different exit times or is there a way to use the cue time?

2.) I am using a bunch of scrollers, patched as simple generic scrollers. I have colour pallettes for each frame. Looking in expanded tombstone view I happily see the Colour Palette label when I send a scroller to a pallette. However, occasionally when I update the Cue the CP label changes to a '+'. For some reason the Hue and Saturation values are then showing different CP labels to the Scroller.

I have a filter applied on Hue and Saturation in an attempt to suppress them, but it seems to make no difference. Really, I don't know why a generic scroller has Hue and Saturation attributes anyway??? The tombstone view is great, but frustrating when the CP doesn't display properly. I can fix this by going into blind and giving the Colour Palette comand again, but it's fairly dull.

3.) Finally, 'Query'. If I wanted to Query a scroller to find out which frames it ISN'T used in in the show what would be the syntax? I still can't grasp all the syntax options with query!!

Thats all, for now...

Thanks!

  • Hi Graham.

     1)  Step based effects.  We are planning to add the UI that lets the entry or exit time of the effect equal the cue time, therefore you wouldn't have to make individual copies with specific exit times.  We have not yet gotten to that.... so, in the meantime, yes, you do have to make individual copies.

    2)  Are you using the color or gel picker at all for your scrollers?  Because it sounds like the scroller values are getting set in the picker.... this should result in the scroller CP tied to the HS values - but that is currently not implemented.  You need to try to only set your scroller values from the command line or the encoders and ignore the color/gel picker completely.  We are making some significant changes to color in 1.5, so all of this will be cleaned up!

    3)  Query is built as a live channel selection tool.  The conditions of Is In and Isn't In refer to what the light is currently doing (Is In is an assumed condition).  Can be and Can't are about how they are stored (Can't be Cue 4 means it isn't stored in cue 4.... Can be Color Palette 12 means it has data in CP12).  For you purposes, we have utility reports.  If you generate the reports (go to print functions), you an get a list of all palettes, with a list of what channels are ever used in those palettes and what channels aren't.  You'll also get a report that tells you if palettes are or are not used in Cues.

Hope this helps!  Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Thanks Anne, thats very helpful.

I did use the colour picker when I initially set up my CP's so I guess thats where I went wrong. Noted for future reference.

I haven't looked into print functions at all yet, so I'll be having a play with that.

The FX entry/exit time thing will be good when it gets there as we've come a cropper with that on the ION as well already.

    Thanks.

  • Let us know how it goes.  The effect entry/exit = cue timing will be added in 1.4.

    Take care!
