Saving, Copying, and recalling colour info: ION

The college I work at has two sets in the studio with LED colour changing fixtures for the background. All the LED fixtures are the same.

We're using an ION console.

I've set the LED lights up in two groups. One for each set.  I can access the groups to change the colours of all the lights at once and I can save the colours in a palette. If I create a colour palette such as red using group 1 and another colour palette such as blue using group 2. How do I swap the palettes between the groups?  Currently I've been selecting both groups at the same time and creating the colour palettes. That seems overly complicated. I would like to create a number of colour palettes and assign them to what ever group I want since all the LED fixtures are the same.

I also tried copying the channel info from one group to the other. Such as CH1 copy to CH4 / enter. That worked initially. I could also set it up as CH1 copy to CH4 + CH5 + CH6 / enter. That also worked initially. All the LED fixtures in group 2 picked up the colour info from Group 1.

That doesn't seem to work anymore.

Also, if I force a group to take a colour palette that was not initially created using that group, sometimes nothing happens and other times the group sends all the LED fixtures to white. I've rebooted the system a number of times but I get the same results.

I need to find a way to make the LED fiixtures go to their assigned colours as soon as the system boots up and a show is loaded.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Michelle

  • Hi Michelle, Firstly, you can use a feature called By-Type palettes to make a Colour Palette available to any channel with the same fixture type. [Group] 1 [Record] [Color Palette] X {By-Type} (softkey) When you do that the lowest channel number is set as the By-Type channel and other channels of the same fixture track it in the palette. I'm not sure quite why you're using the / in your syntax. Channel 1 Copy To Channel 2 Enter is all you need. If the channel is already in a palette it will reference the same palette if not it will take the absolute information from the channel referenced. Hope that's a help. Dan
  • To answer your second question: Ion preserves outputs when loading a new showfile. So you need at least one user action to get your leds to their supposed color. Be it a Go, a macro or a manual action like setting your leds to a color palette.
