I was wondering if there is a way to use submasters as control for led fixture colors, just like you would with conventional cyc lights.

there is. not super-simple since there is the colorpicker that's really simple to use and is probably the preferred method of control.

first you need to make sure that you only record single parameters onto the faders. one should only contain the parameter Red for all necessary fixtures, one only Green and the last one only Blue. the red fader must not contain ANY other information, not even zeros. if you already have your faders and need to clean them, the easiest way to do this, is Blind. press Blind Sub 1 Enter. Group 1 - Red At Enter. for group 1 this reomves all parameters except Red. repeat for the rest.

the second thing you need to do, is changing the Home values of the color channels for those fixtures. either edit the fixture personality in patch or make a home preset.

Ueli, could you expand on the requirement/use for changing the home value ?. I usually just filter (or selectively record) just the color into the sub.

usually, fixtures with additive color mixing have a Home value of 100% for their color parameters.

so lets say:

GoToCue Out

Chan 1 Full Enter (LED is full and white, because of the home value of 100% of all colors)

move Sub 1 up.

nothing happens because Red is already Full

you have to make sure that the color values of your LEDs are at zero. either by setting a Home value (personality or preset) or have it at zero in the current cue...

If the user is only mixing via subs, then this wouldn't be an issue as there's no other value present. Thus the sub levels are all just additive to each other

It then rears it's ugly head with values in cues (or effects)

Unless I'm being stupid.

it's the other way round: when you're only mixing by subs you need to avoid home values of 100. with a cue you have a way to set a value of 0, but when only using subs the only way to set the lower value is changing the home value.

i think
