I read this in the release notes: Ion, Element, Ion RPU, and the Net3 RVI are now shipping with Windows 7 and a revised motherboard/SSHD.
Will there be a hardware upgrade option for existing Ion consoles with the Windows7 revision of EOS2.2.0?

A refurbishment package will eventually be offered.
Rumour has it that the package will include a new motherboard, SSD, and a warranty. No details are available yet on price, timing, shipping logistics, or any of the other myriad details one would need to make a decision as to whether it is worthwhile.

The tech specs of the # of universes an Ion will handle has just doubled. So yeah, I'd say it's a no-brainer. 6114 Outputs = 11 universes. Unless I'm reading that wrong. Last week it was 6.
Plus multi-touch monitors. It's a "will do when available" for me. Add me to the +1 list.

The SSD is the big seller in my mind. Faster boot times.

I'd take an ssd in an instant! A faster boot time and probably faster everything oh man.

Do we have any new info on when we have the details to upgrade Ion hardware? Last I heard details would be coming out by the end of July...

We'll be announcing information in mid-August. This is for Eos, Congo, and Cobalt families. There are some eligibility criteria for consoles - when we publish information, there will be a serial number chart along with it.
More soon!
