Feature Request: Livelier Move

So I just finally did some research on the Live Move cue flag and found in another post that there is only a Live move flag when a non-intensity parameter is moving, but ONLY when the intensity is coming from 0.

I'd like to suggest:

- A flag of some sort when there is a live move when the intensity is above 0 in the proceeding cue AND the current cue. (a Livelier Move if you will) This is what I've always assumed a 'Live Move' meant. Me and many designers have thought that those flags were broken when we would write a live move into a show but not see the 'L' show up in the column. (Assuming that by Live Move, it meant any live move not just a move when coming from 0).

- The above could even be broken down further into a new column, that let you know when there was a Livelier move in Focus, Color, Beam, Image.

- Also a flag of some sort, when in the MV column when there is a Live Move but the intensity is going to 0.

In the past couple places i've programmed for (theater, straight plays with movers, scrollers, LEDs, etc.).... we've spent hours scouring the show trying to get rid of all of the live move of any kind.... (0 to Full, Full to Full, and Full to 0) assuming that the little L in the MV Playback column was supposed to be showing us that info and was broken. I'm glad I know now, but it would be awesome if the cue list automatically told us. It would save a ton of time!

Thanks!

  • Carl,

You should be getting an L flag when a channel fades up from 0 and does a NP move, and also when it fades down to 0 and does a NP move.  If you're not, double check that you're running the latest software version.  If the issue persists, post a bug report.  It is working for me on 2.2.0.

I'd argue that any flag that shows the presence of any NP move with the intensity above 0 would just get confusing.  In some of my shows, there would be a flag on every cue.  I'm not sure how valuable that would be.  If you keep a clean cue list (with no L or D flags), the PSD will tell you if there is a NP move in any cue that has a solid border around the F/C/B time.  So in some way, that functionality is already there.

As for cleanup, the About window is supposed to be a helpful tool to tell you which channels have live or dark moves (as the console defines it currently), however that is broken in the 2.2.0 release software.  In the About Cue window in 2.2.0, any NP move is considered a live move (which is coincidentally what you're asking for... just don't get used to it!).  That's on the list to be fixed, so look there in the future.

    Hope that helps,

    ~P

  • Hey Paul, You are right. I do get an L flag on an up fade AND down fade. I was reading old forums and down fades live move flags hadn't been implemented yet. As far as value, I can think of a bunch of ways this could be valuable. With the LD flags in patch, I could disable everything besides scrollers and make sure I don't have any Live Scroller Moves by just looking at the cue list. I've even been in situations where I've had movers on the front of the stage during variety type shows, and while a live or dark move during one of the rock numbers is probably fine... a move during someone's monologue isn't. Yes, there are ways to see if there is an level->level live move.... but it seems weird that one of those ways isn't the Live Move column. I guess that's what bothers me the most. The term "Live Move" very specifically includes anytime the light is on and is moving/scrolling/etc. So it seems counter-intuitive for it not to indicate when a level-to-level live move is happening. It reminds me of earlier in the eos software when pressing At-At would take you to full, and Full-Full would take you to level. Technically, it made sense but it's something you have to think about instead of being instinctual. It seems having a Live-Move flag would indicate every time there was ANY type of live move by default, and there could be some type of setting to change if you only wanted to refer to 0->level live moves, or level->level live moves, etc. Looking at the F/C/B times is a great idea, but again... it is taking into account every fixture in the show. I should be able to turn on/off a set of LD Flags in patch and glance at the cue list for live moves (including level->level moves) without looking at each cue. What you are saying is also very true as well, you shouldn't have to see every level->level live move if you don't want to. Okay new/modified suggestion: - Capital "L" for current live moves (0->level & level->0) - Lowercase "l" for livelier moves (level->level) (or another capital letter "X" for cross or "V" for liVe move) - Option in Setup to disable level->level flags.
