NOMAD EOS Artnet Output

Hi,

We recently purchased the dongle to activate NOMAD and we seem to be having an issue outputting Artnet.  We are running the latest version of NOMAD on a Mac connected via ethernet to a router which connects to our Pathport Quattro which is set to accept all Artnet on the network.  Where we run into to issues is trying to get the NOMAD/EOS software to initially output Artnet. It takes about 5-6 software restarts to get the program to successfully push Artnet across the network.  We have tested the Pathport Quattro (while the software was open and not outputting Artnet) using a generic phone app to see if the Pathport would accept Artnet and it did.  Once the NOMAD software finally starts outputting Artnet everything works fine, it just takes an immense amount of fidgeting to get to that point.

Any ideas on why this is happening, I've never seen this happen with a physical EOS console?

Thanks,

  • First of all, what IP addresses are you using? We recommend 10.x.x.x (Secondary Art-Net) if Art-Net is required.

Many domestic Internet routers will tend to block Art-Net from time to time, as it looks very much like a denial-of-service attack - especially if there are several Universes coming from the same source.

All routers will block Art-Net from travelling between the WAN & LAN, and if built after 2009 they may get very confused if you use 2.x.x.x IP addresses as those aren't really allowed in "private" networks.

Most 'dumb' switches will handle Art-Net better, and fully-managed switches can be configured to handle it well.

However, seeing as you've got a Pathport, I highly recommend that you use sACN instead!
I believe that all Pathway's current network products support sACN, though if you've had it a while you may need a firmware update for it.

sACN was designed to allow switches and routers to handle it properly, even switching specific universes to the right destinations.

  • For Nomad to output ArtNet or sACN, you need to have the computer connected to the network BEFORE starting the Nomad application.
