mulitple brand consoles on same ethenet network

have facitliy with multiple performance spaces - most of faciltiy is on ETC-Net-3 and IONs - but inherited a HOG-3 from another team coming in to a new space.

can I run hog protocol on the same physical etherent network infrastructure as Net-3 as long as IPs are separated - perhaps I can put on differerent subnet.

  • When a network is shared, there will be more traffic. Items with embedded processors (like nodes, gateways, and other output devices) will tend to process more information (especially multicast and broadcast traffic generated by either set of equipment and propagated across subnets). This can cause performance issues. Additionally by sharing the network, you increase troubleshooting complexity if issues occur.

It would be worthwhile to consider a VLAN if your network gear supports it - while separate subnets will help with unicast traffic, a VLAN will separate the broadcast and multicast traffic as well, reducing the load on both sides.
