Pixel Mapping with Sea Changer

Hello,

I'm having some difficulties trying to create a pixel map with some SeaChanger Tungsten CYM xG. (Used with a Source 4 so its patched with part 1 as dimmer part 2 as the SeaChanger)

The instrument work fine when controlled conventionally but we would like to control a 5x5 grid of them with a pixel map.  When I created the pixel map I grabbed a 5x5 grid of pixels and applied the channels to it 61>X.  The pixels turned pink and the channel numbers showed up.  I thought great lets give it a spin.

I then went to live and applied a static gradient to the instruments via the virtual media server but only the intensities were affected.  The SeaChanger's color was not being affected at all even though I changed the color and saw those changes reflected in the pixel map live preview.

Upon further inspection I saw that in the pixel map the pixels with the channels for our sea changers, when selected, would highlight the "Dimmer" type in the CIA.  So of course I grab the pixel, tell it its a SeaChanger by selecting that type in the CIA.  Give it its channel number again and hit apply.  Immediately it tells me its a dimmer again.

Is this a bug I'm running in to?  Does it have something to do with the fixture having a remote dimmer and therefore two parts patched?  Is there a work around to make this work?

I'm totally stumped and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance!

  • It's a bit hard to diagnose pixel mapping because other than real output there are no diagnostic tools that let you look at what the console is doing... The preview is only showing you the input that goes into the pixel map logic but not what is being output in real life.

Your first try could be to go to patch and move the dimmer to part 2. But due to the plusGreen, it might still not work.

Sea changers will not work easily with pixel mapping because pixel mapping only understands a limited Set of color mixing systems. Your best bet is probably to use a different patch in pixel mapping, so don't refer to your sea changers by address and not by channel. I would suggest using a homemade personality with only CMY and set the individual pixels to such addresses as to match the naked CMY to your real life searchers' color mixing. I think that would work, but now you have to control intensity and plusGreen from a cue, only CMY will get information from pixel mapping.

    Hope that helps
