Strange Magic Sheet behavior

Hello everybody!

I draw a MagicSheet for the Color Palettes of my Scrollers where I said the filling color of the buttons should be dynamic to show the gel-color.
This works fine! Now I merged this MS in already existing showfiles which in 90% works fine also.
BUT in some showfiles it won´t (in one Show it shows the usuall grey Background in another a white one). I thought it had to be about the Color-Palettes but couldn´t find any differences to the Color-Palettes in the shows where the MS works fine.
I merged the Color-Palettes though and tatataaa they showed the right Colors.
So I have an easy Workaround but still don´t understand the behavior...

Any ideas? If someone´s (Anne???) interested in taking a look into the files to tell me that it´s just stupid me I could E-Mail or dropbox them...

With greetings from sunny Berlin

  • A couple thoughts :

the MS will display the color of the highest channel number in the color pallette - so I would make sure there isn't another channel in there messing up the works.

There was a display bug in 2.1 where linked colors would sometimes not display.  I'm pretty sure we got that one sorted in 2.2   Were the broken color pallettes created in 2.1 perhaps - and the new imported ones built in 2.2?   That's just a guess.

  • Hey Boozer you´re totally right!
I checked that again and found some wrong patched scrollers with ColorPalette entrys but no strings. So there´s hue & saturation at 0 in every palette. So that´s why they were all white.
Very easy to fix thanks to you!

Still there´s something strange in another show file. Here are no more than 4 ColorPalette entrys and they are all good but the MS buttons are in the default grey. That file seems to have another bug. One channel has effect 1 in a cue wich is shown right in cuelist and in tombstones but in spreadsheet it show´s effect 10 ?!

But I don´t know in wich software-version any of these shows were programmed ´cause I haven´t been working here then. I´m not even shure if it maybe is an ASCII import from a Strand 520...

Sorry, all a little bit confuse but thanks for the other hint anyway!

  • why don't you attach this showfile to this post here, so someone can have a look? maybe also indicate which channels and which cues are showing something strange. you can attach a showfile by clicking "Use rich formatting" and then the 9th icon in the lower line of icons.

  • I´ll attach the showfile I still have trouble with to this post.
The MS in which I miss the color in the ColorPalette buttons is MS 4. As far as I see only channels 272 / 274 / 276 / 278 do have Color Palette entrys.

The Channel that shows the wrong effect is 970 in Q 140. In Tombstones and in the Playback window effect 1 is shown (correct) but in Spreadsheet it says effect 10...Der Russe ist einer, der Birken liebt 2014-11-18 00-35-14.esf

  • about the MS and color palettes: Group ColorPalette 1 Enter will select all channels recorded into the CP. for CP 1 they are: 220, 270, 271, 272, 274, 276, 278, 280, 295, 296. 296 has the highest number so it determines the color of the MS button. but because it's only a dimmer, it holds no Hue/Sat info. could maybe 296 have had a scroller once that was unpatched? i think the quickest way to get rid of that is this: ColorPalette 1 MoveTo Preset 1 Enter, Preset 1 MoveTo ColorPalette 1. i only found this a minute ago, please test carefully...
  • regarding the effect: could it be that in spreadsheet view it actually says " E 1 0 " and not " E10 " ? try making the columns of your spreadsheet a bit wider. i think it says E1, and chan 970 is @ 0% in the cue, which is then the starting point of the effect.
  • Damn! Maybe I should spend more time investigating myself before I steel your time...

I think you´re tottaly right about the effect and also about the MS behavior. Possibly the channels with only dimmers but CP entry had a scroller once.
    Don´t know about that.
But I think they should loose that entry when the scroller is unpatched ´cause the data will get lost anyway. I tried it by patching a scroller record a CP unpatch the scroller and patch it again. The channel has an entry in the CP but no value in any parameter...

Anyway you helped me very much not only to clean that mess but also to understand what the problem was. Sometimes it can be very interesting running shows you didn´t programm yourself and find things like that.
Maybe someday I´ll understand at least a few percent of that lovely desk....
