DMX decoder controlling RGB strips profile help?

I would like to program some led strips through a dmx controller but I am having a problem finding a profile that will control my lights with the ION console. The controller is one of these DC 12-24V 3 Channels DMX 512 Decoder - DMX Driver Controller for LED Lights and DMX Devices bought through Amazon. I have seen other people sue these decoders but they are not using an ION. Some help would be greatly appreciated. The lights are RGB with dimming capability.

  • i have ion lighting console with arri lighting setup . . our setup has 2 universes 1-512 and 513-1024. if i change 1 light and placed in universe 2 how i do it. i need to know also how i configure the led rgb using dmx lighting controller ?
  • What do you mean by change one light in this context? What do you mean by "configure the LED rgb using DMV lighting controller"?
  • actually our set has dip switches for controlling leds lights inside set. so how i add the rgb light inside ion console
  • You need to patch them accordingly, as Ueli described above.
Are you familiar with a) the concept of patching fixtures and b) the concept of DMV universes?

I'm sorry I do not fully understand your postings (arri setup, change one light etc)
  • yes our set has 4 universes 1-512 and 513-1024 and 1536 to onwards.....
first 3 are reserved for studio lights and last one i start for rgb leds inside decor
i need to know 2 things
1- if i change the position of 1 light from 1 universe to 2 universe that light uses 12 adresss so how i change the adress and channel no inside ion console as i know its inside PATCH option need to know steps properly
2- rgb leds for decor sets how we configure them like how to add them on ion cosole
  • DMX is universal across brands of controllers and fixtures. I will attempt to explain some of the basics in simple language as it seems English may not be your primary language. More can be found on DMX generally if you want more.

Each universe is limited to 512 addresses even though some systems (like yours) number them sequentially. Universe 3 address 10 can be #1035 or 3/10 and the Ion will understand addresses in either form and even translate. Many people find a form of Universe/Address to be easier to work with. Regardless of how you input the address the cord going to a fixtures contains only addresses 1-512, so you must address the fixture withing that limit. The universe is determined at the start of the cable run and a cable run can only be a single universe. I suspect you have a network based system where any port can be set to be a specific universe. I hope they are clearly labeled. So, the fixture above would be addressed as #10 but be on a Universe #3 cable chain.

To move it to another universe requires changing the cable AND the patch. The patch is a description of the how the fixtures get their signal. Any difference between patch and the reality of the cabling will prevent control.

I recommend you view the Eos training videos for detailed instructions on patching complex fixtures.

    I hope that helps.
