Source Four LED series 1 on Ion

I'm using some  Source four LED units with cyc adaptors. They are the original version rather than the series 2. I'm running them in Quick/Stage mode and have patched them as such on the desk. I'm experiencing significant lag when selecting and changing colours. In snap lighting cues they appear to respond about a second later than everything else in the rig. Is this a deliberate  tungsten simulation or do I need to look at adjusting the dimmer curve or some other parameter?

  • Hi,

When the fixture is running in quick set Stage, the fixture must perform additional calculations in order to convert from HSI to individual control levels for each color. This could lead to a delay in the response time between the Source 4 LED and other fixtures. Can you let me know the firmware version of the fixture? With firmware versions 1.6.0 and later we have made improvements to speed up these calculations.

Do you have the ability to try the fixture in quick set General mode? This will require Direct control of the LED colors, but it will eliminate the calculations required for HSI control and will have the fastest response time. This will help determine if the HSI calculations are truly causing the delay you are experiencing.

Please let me know how I can help.

    Thanks.

  • I didn't get the chance to run them in general mode as we only had a three night run and they were quite hard to access. i did try them in linear mode and although this smoothed out the longer fades again, there was still the noticeable delay on the snap cues. (Oddly their overall intensity in linear mode appeared to be slightly brighter than in quick mode) However, I checked the firmware version during the de rig, and it appears they were running 1.5, so your explanation about the delay makes sense. It was a bit irritating as we are seriously considering buying some of these units for our new build theatre next year and the reason for hiring them on this show was so we could evaluate them more closely in show conditions. However, not only did we not get the series 2 that we thought we were getting, it appears we didn't even get the latest firmware version for the original ones. However, I was suitably impressed by the brightness and coverage, and now know what to look out for when evaluating the series 2 next year.
  • Hello, I am sorry you were not able to try out the newest fixture with the current software. There have been a lot of improvements. If you are looking to evaluate a fixture for future purchase, you should contact a local ETC dealer or rep about borrowing a unit or getting a demo. They should be able to help you get your hands on a Series 2 fixture running current code. If you are having problems with this, please let us know. Jim Uphoff Fixture Product Manager-ETC Marketing.
