Setting a parameter default

I have some compound fixtures consisting of a Source 4, a  Rosco I-Cue, a scroller and a City Theatrical IRIS.  When I start a new show, the IRIS always start with a parameter value of 0 (zero), ie. the IRIS is fully closed.  I would like to have the default value be 255, fully open, so that if the intensity is turned up and the IRIS setting is neglected, we don't overheat and possibly burn the IRIS.

I can find no way to do this.  When I patched the fixture I choose the IRIS 8B selection from the Custom choice under manufacturer since the City Theatrical IRIS is not listed under City Theatrical.

Is it possible to do what I want?

  • Hi Dale.... well, two things here.

First, the default for an iris parameter, regardless of the way the manufacturer has mapped it, should be fully open.  So, we will get that changed.

Secondly, what you are really looking for is a way to change the default home position.  That will be in software version 1.4, which will be released in May.

Hope this helps.  Well, its an answer, anyway  ... :-)

    Thanks much!

  • Hi Anne.

Well, your news is pretty good.  Of course I would like the IRIS change right away so I hope it isn't too long coming.  Being able to change the default home position on a fixture will be good too.  I'm looking forward to 1.4 for several of the enhancements.

    Thanks for the update.

PS.  Maybe this should be a new thread but ...  I really would like to be able to create fixture profiles and have them stored in the User section of the profile library.  Having them stored only as part of the show they are defined in creates a lot of work.  We typically do 2 shows a week - church services with different requirements twice a Sunday - so not being able to recall user defined fixture profiles from a library is a problem.

  • Dale,

You could create your own profile for the iris.  In the process, you get to set the Home value.  While you are there, you could create a single profile for your entire compound fixture.  It's a little quirky, but rewarding to figure out.

    Good Luck,  Brent

Yes, I think thats a good point.

It would be a lot easier, if self-edited fixtures would be not just part of the show, so you could recall everything on the easy way that was already worked out.
