Using a smartfade as a faderwing on a Eos Nomad

Hi there.
I have a small question.
Would it be possible to use a Smartfade as a fader remote for the Nomad via the showcontrol gateway?

I'm thinking connecting the smartfade to a showcontrol box via midi and then connect that to the Nomad.

Thanks :)

  • I'm sadly a midi newbie.. I have never found the golden path thru that colorful world of midi. I just wanna be sure that I understand the answer. It is not possible to control a virtual sub on the Nomad via an midi command from the smartfade?
  • midi has several flavours: midi notes, midi show control, midi timecode, program change, control change, and many more. they are transmitted through the same type of cable, they are all digital, they use a common data format, but if one flavour is not implemented in the receiver, it will not be understood.

eos can't assign freely assign midi events to its functions. so we would need to use an existing midi function.

midi notes can be used to send events in situations where there is no particular order.
midi show control can be used to trigger the same type with the same number in more than one device (think syncronized cue lists). (more info here)
midi time code can be used for a predetermined sequence of things with predetermined timing.

i have the feeling, that you would want to use something like midi notes: when you do something on the smartfade, you want something to happen on the eos, but the smartfade things are not in a predetermined order. unfortunately eos does not accept midi notes as input (and smartfade might not even output midi notes from faders, don't know, not much of a smartfade expert).

midi show control could control faders as well. faders with the same number move at the same time. but in smartfade's implementation of midi show control, there is no fader control, afaik.

this brings me to the conclusion, that smartfade triggering eos by midi will not work.
