mysterious patch problem

I have a curious and urgent problem. I had a channel (75) that ended up patched to three addresses. Unused in the current show. I deleted the channel in Patch, accepted that it would be removed from the show, then repatched to Address 26. Chan 75 shows up in the patch list as correctly patched to 26, type Dimmer. It's an S4.

Here's the problem: I can fire up the fixture using Address 26, but not using Channel 75. As far as I can tell, it looks like every other dimmer. I've tried saving the show, exiting and restarting the software, and restarting the console (Element 60). I've patched lots of channels, but must be missing something.

Suggestions? Need it to fill a hole for show tomorrow morning! Thanks, folks.

is the chan 75 Parked? there would be a small white P in a corner of the tombstone. Is the dimmer profiled to 0% maximum?

Version 2.2--sorry, must have taken that out in an edit.

About shows precisely the same data for this channel as another working channel. Patched on 1/26. Type is the same Generic Dimmer as every other working channel. But, when I hit Flash, while DMX values cycle between 38 and 255 on the working channel, they don't move on the non-working channel. Not parked. The Value cycles between 15 and FL, Abs between 15 and 100, but DMX doesn't move. I can't see why setting the same type Generic Dimmer as the working channel would result in this behavior, but I'm not fully versed in profile stuff yet. In the Patch table, * is displayed in sACN, EDMX, and DMX, Output shown as 0--same as working channels. What next? Thanks so much for the quick replies so far.

when you go to Patch and select channel 75, then press Softkey 2 Atributes. is there anything in the tiles Curve or Proportion?

Further info: I went back to an earlier show, where the patch was to a different address (1/53). Tried Flash, and intensity DMX cycled as on a working channel (no fixture attached), from 38 to 255. I then ran [75] {Replace Address} {26}, no changes to anything else, including fixture type, and DMX does not cycle, but Abs cycles as described above. Is this show corruption? Would someone be willing to look at my show file to see what's up? How would I upload that here? (I have the file)

No. Only values displayed are LD Flags Enabled, Gm Exempt Disabled, as the working channels.

click on Reply, then there is a blue link "Use rich formatting". you get two rows of icons. bottom row, 9th from the left

The attached has 75 patched to 53. Flash cycles DMX from 38 to 255. Run [75] {Replace} [26] and DMX stops cycling. Thanks for taking the time!

hm, here it works, but i'm on different software version than you... i would try going to the shell, setting, maintenance, deep clear (make sure, you don't have any unsaved changes in your showfile, so no asterisk after the show name). start as primary again, load the showfile and check again. if it still doesn't work, call ETC hotline. they're there 24/7. tollfree in the US: 800/688-4116

Ueli, thanks so much for verifying. I realized there's been a 2.2.1 update release (I'm on 2.2.0, not yet on 2.3 beta program as my time got sucked up this year). I'm going to try that, too, but for the sake of thorough testing will try deep clear first. That doesn't nuke any saved show files, right? I do have everything backed up on USB and server, so not too worried. Well, I had fun on this show with audio console corruption for the first time, guess it's my turn with ETC! Never a dull moment.

whatever is on your hard drive is save when you do a deep clear. it's just that changes you didn't Shift+Update yet that will be lost

Fascinating. Deep cleared. (Then wasted precious minutes bungling around trying to remember how to swap Live table from right to left screen and playback from left to right screen, so my student doesn't freak out in the morning show. Remind me the keystrokes to move a tab to another display?) Anyhow, on reloading a show with the repatched channel (75 on 26), suddenly Flash is working--channel behaving normally. Wonder what got stuck. Thanks so much. Star standing on chair will now be seen!

ps: i still would have guessed it was a parked address... that will not give you a tombstone p, but it would show in the park screen and in about (but you would only see it in about when scrolling to the right)

tab with the golden border (aka tab with focus) can be moved by keeping Tab pressed and then using the left/right arrow keys

I bet parked address was it, now that I reflect: I originally patched it from iRFR while on the lift, and think I was accidentally in Park mode, but it didn't compute. As a test, I hit the Park button on my Element console and parked Address 26 at 0. The Park value column in About for Channel 75 remains empty, and still remains empty when 26 is parked at e.g. 20% (this after upgrading to 2.2.1). It is listed on the Park tab, though, which I didn't think to check previously. So thanks, Andrew, for thinking of Park; it behaves differently for channels and addresses (no "P" displayed on channel when its address is parked), and I never do park addresses so didn't get there. As for Tab button, right; thanks Ueli. I was trying Displays before I gave up and messed with the little screen icons at the top. I don't yet find the Display interface very intuitive, likely because I set it once and leave it that way for months. Have to reread that Demystifying Displays PDF ETC released some time ago! Take care, guys.

To keep paragraph formatting you have to select "Use rich formatting" which shows up on the bottom right under the text box when replying.
