Feature request: patch address in an address range separately from the fixture

I want to be able to remove a DMX address from a fixture and patch it to another channel. When an Image 85 is in Fixture mode, it uses 2 DMX slots, the start address and the 9th one over. Because I need to conserve as much space as possible, I want to use the ones in between. But if I patch anything in between, it gives me the "Address in use, overwrite?" error message and when I confirm the patch, it unpatches the Image 85. Please change this behavior. If I'm using 8 Image 85s in fixture mode, I want to be able to offset the start addresses by 1 to conserve space in the patch.

Also, I could use this to patch a DMX address in a fixture to a separate channel to control it separately from the fixture.

  • Yes, it's possible!

Let's assume you're using chans 1-8, to make it easy.

Create channels 1 to 8 with type Image 85, except don't patch them.

Create a part 2 on each channel as a generic dimmer. Address these:

    Chan 1 part 2 @ 1

    Chan 2 part 2 @ 2

    ...

    Chan 8 part 2 @ 8

In fixture editor, create a copy of the Image 85 fixture, but delete the intensity section and change the DMX range from 9 to 1.

Create a part three for each channel - and use this new fixture, addressed 9 to 16.

Hope that helps. I bet there's an easier way to do it...

    David.

  • john, that should be quite simple:

patch > fixtures, copy the original personality twice.
edit one of them and delete the macro parameter
edit the other one, delete the intens parameter and for the remaining macro parameter change the DMX column to 1

in patch, select a channel, make part 1 one of the edited personalities, part 2 the other one. you can patch those to the two single addresses the fixtures need.
