Simple Multipart Patch Problem???

I've run into this simple problem a few times now.

Imagine this scenario:

I want to patch a 2K spacelight with two non-consecutive dimmer numbers, and still treat the fixture as a multi intensity fixture.

Problems:  I tried copying the profile and editing the dmx channels of intensity 2 to be non consecutive.  (that results in a patch of, say, dimmers 1-3.  I only want to use 1 & 3.  Not 2)

I tried just making a basic two part channel, with two dimmers.  But the channel operates both dimmer parts at the same time. (of course.)

If you understand this problem, and have a solution, please respond.  I'd appreciate it.

  • I was told by a customer an idea: Create two custom fixtures: 1 has Intensity and the other Intensity 2. Patch each as PARTS of the same channel, which will allow the gap in addressing. I hope this helps you.
  • Sasha, your solution is close, except that Intensity 2 Parameter doesn't come along with a "global intensity" parameter. Only an Intensity 1 does. However, certain color parameters come along with "global intensity" parameters as well. Amber, White, etc.
Using one of these to control the Part 2/DMX 3 allows you to use the "global intensity" moving light control to dim both channels. Using Intensity 2 will not, strictly because it does not have the "global intensity". I'm going to look further into how to assign that little feature to Intensity 2.
