Expand not working on ION

Hi all

Tried using the [expand] key on the ION, however it didn't appear to do anything.  I read over that section of the manual and still couldn't make heads or tails of this function.

We have 2 monitors - one elo touchscreen, and one flatscreen monitor. Both monitors are DVI. The monitors have different resolutions - not sure if this has anything to do with it or not...

Has anyone experienced similar problems, or have any ideas?

Cheers

  • Hi Brent, on Ion pressing the expand key once will expand your channel display across both monitors. Pressing it again will collapse it. This is different than on Eos where it's used with the arrow keys.  Is this different than what you are seeing?

  • Hi Dan

Unfortunately this is not what I am seeing.  Pressing "expand" appears to have no effect on the console displays at all.  Any ideas?  My two monitors are not the same resolution - would that effect it at all?

    Cheers

  • I know this post was four and a half years ago, but there is no solution posted. I was wondering what exactly the limitations of expand are. Unlike the OP, I am on a EOS, not an ION, but I still can't get expand to do anything. Running 1.9.12 with 2 external monitors. What displays can(not) be expanded? Does monitor placement matter? Resolution?

    Thanks,

  • Expand works in conjunction with the arrow keys. If you have the Live tab active, you can use [Expand]&[>] to have 2 monitors full of Live. This works with many displays, not just Live.

    Use [Expand]&[<] to contract again.

I know all of that. Any more information than what is in the manual would be helpful. Plus, [Expand] & [Arrow Right] does not work on my Live display, hence the question.

  • Check to make sure you have content to display when you expand to the right... if you don't the screen will be blank.  Are you looking to expand down instead?

  • I'm just looking to expand anything in anyway.  I haven't been able to get the expand function to work on any display. I have over 4 pages of channels so that is not the problem. Like I said, I am on an EOS 1.9.12 and have 2 external monitors. I only decided to try playing with the expand function because I am thinking about adding a third external display and wanted to see what I could do with it. What is the difference between using the right arrow and the down arrow? Does it matter how the screens are situated in the shell. Granted I've tried both...

  • Quick suggestion. Every once in a while my Ion decides that it doesn't want to play nice with display. I won't be able to close a tab, or move a tab. Doing a Deep Clear in the shell has always solved this.

Friendly reminder, make sure to save your show before performing the deep clear as you will have to re load it.
