Hi All,
As an LD at an RVI, it's often useful to be the same User # as the programmer for the sake of seeing channel selections and bringing that channel into focus on the channel display. It's also useful during situations like making edits in blind and to see channel moves in next/last cues.
However, it's also nice being a different user so you don't have to watch the programmer go into blind to mark, cleanup dark/live moves, etc. I have my own set of X-keys to change users, as does the programmer. If the programmer needs to do cleanup work, they can change users, and same goes for RVIs. It does work, but can be frustrating in intense techs as every little pause for finding the button on the X-keys and changing users adds up (and then remembering to change back to the 'global' user).
Some LDs can live in their own user # and be content, but with a show that has 8 pages of channels (flexi patched, format tombstone) it quickly gets old paging up or down to find the channel you are looking for.
The dream: RVI, for example, is set to a different user than the console, but there is an option for "channel selection" to follow the User # of the console.
I understand this gets complicated quickly from an execution and elegance standpoint, but I think this is a common request for LDs and ALDs.
Thanks,
Kirk Fitzgerald
