patching; missing channels

Not sure I can word this question sufficiently to be clearly understood but I'll try. It happens once in a while and my last event it happened again so I thought I would post it. I am going off memory so may not have specifics needed.

I want to patch a range channels; same multi-channel fixtures. So I enter the channels @ the start address and enter. Let's use 211 through 220 fixture @ 2/101 enter for an example. I see 211 through 215 (again this is an example only i picked out of the air) but not 216 through 220. So I patch 216 @ start address that would be applicable to that fixture and it appears as 216. I then do 217 through 220 @ whatever address would be applicable to 217 fixture and I think nothing showed. So I have to either do each one 217 then 218 and so forth until all are done.

It either happened that way or when I tried the individual channels and fixtures that were not showing one at a time nothing showed then either until I deleted those channels and re-patched the range again. Sorry, can't remember which way it happened.

Is this very unspecific example possibly happening because of the improper order of patching multi-channel fixtures against what is shown in the training video? That being; enter the channel range first and enter. Then select the fixture enter. Then @ and the start channel. I would have to think not since the first group did show. I'm just not sure what prevents certain ones from showing in the list on the patch screen.

I realize this might be opening up a pandoras box and more specific details might be needed. If so I will wait until it happens again and try to make notes, however as most of you know, patching for an event doesn't often times allow for note taking. :-)

  • No, it did not mean that. You will see every channel that has an address at this very moment. But if right now 21 and 26 has an address and 22 thru 25 don't, you will only see 21 and 26. If you type. 21 thru 26 at address 1, this only applies to channels 21 AND 26, because those were visible while you were selecting. You wanted 21 thru 26 including all the (invisible) ones in between so you have to type 21 thru thru 26 at address 1 Enter.
