Network port has stopped working

Hi,

We have been using the network connection (for remote control) on our Element for years and it has suddenly stopped working. There is no good link light on the network port. In the Settings under Network all the settings are all 0 (IP/Subnet mask and default gateway) and the Local Area Connection is offline. The physical address is also all 0's. If I set the IP/Subnet and default gateway, Apply the changes and go back into settings they will all go back to 0.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Parents
  • Hi G,

    Few Troubleshooting tips:

1.) Plug the Network cable from Element into a different port in the Switch. See if Problem is fixed?

2.) Swap the Network cable out with a new one. See if Problem is fixed?

3.) Do other devices in Network connected to this Switch work?

    thanks,

  • I'll add one more option, less sure but doesn't use anything from the network:
Plug a cable directly from the Element to a lap top. If the Element has DHCP enabled you should get a connection. I think of this as a training connection so you can use the ETC/Capture virtual theater files.
  • Hi Richard - Good Idea - just need to be careful when testing with a Laptop directly - either the cable needs to be a crossover cable or the laptop network card needs to automatically detect and crossover itself - which isn't a feature with all laptops. Most Dell can do this, but not sure about others. So just because a connection doesn't occur here, doesn't mean the Element Network Port has an issue.

  • Acknowledged.
My sources say nearly all modern laptops have auto switching ports.

Your tests all focus on the network. My test is on the console. Don't forget that multiple problems are always possible.
  • Hi Richard,

I troubleshoot 100+ theatre networking issues yearly, and in my ecperience there are still laptops in use that can't automatically confugure their network ports for crossover.

It is also common that customers don't know how to determine if their laptop has this feature or nott - when means it would be uncertain if connecthing the laptop directly could work or not.

When troubleshooting, I try to remove any uncertain factors that could cause multiple issues at once.

My first steps for troubleshooting in my previous post involved simple requests which help decide on following troubleshooting steps.

So lets focus on helping G get their Element on the network online again. ;)
