Ion fader wing issue - power but no comms with console

I'm sure I read something similar to this on either the forum or the Facebook group not too long ago, but can't find it - so apologies if this has already been answered:

One of my Ion consoles has the old motherboard with the DVI splitter. It has a 2 x 20 fader wing permanently attached. Right now the fader wing is powering on with the console, but just displays 'Electronic Theatre Controls' on each panel all the time - i.e. doesn't appear to be communicating with the Ion software. I've tried re-attaching the wing again and the problem is persisting.

I recently re-imaged the operating system on this console using the 2.2.0 image kit supplied by ETC - I know the fader wing was working at some point prior to the re-image, but can't be 100% sure that it stopped working at the same time as the re-image.

My question is: does an original XP Ion running the 2.2.0 operating system image still support a directly coupled connection to a fader wing? Or does the fader wing now need to be connected via external USB connection? I know this was discussed in the thread I can't find, but I can't remember what configuration that discussion applied to.

Also, if the external USB connection is now required, can the fader wing remain coupled to the console to obtain power, or does it need to be completely detached, and have both external power and USB connections?

Thanks!
