Ion Master/Backup irregularities, old showfile

I am running two ions both on 2.2.1.9.0.13 software, one is a more recent hardware model, the other older. Both were recently deep-cleared, showfile was started 3 years ago and has been constantly updated.

The issue is the Master will occasionally be non responsive, I am unable to repeat the undesired operation. The last time it happened I had just deleted a group in blind, switched to live and entered a channel number, and then was unable to enter any kind of intensity command into the command line, AT didnt work, neither did FULL or OUT... I rolled over to my backup Ion, which is synchronized and tracking the master, and all worked as it should right away. I roll back to the master, and the master works again. I then noticed that, on my Master console, neither the LIVE or BLIND key's led lights were lit. which if i am not mistaken should never be the case.

I was recently having a similar issue on a different board running the same show. however without a backup. the board would occasionally be non-responsive, and would also occasionally drop the look, sending 00 to all my channels blacking out the rig. I called ETC support and they believed the issue may have been the board losing connection to its license.

It seems like this may happen during periods of rest. I work on a TV show so the board is not touched for minutes at a time when we are rolling, then we cut and I go to change an intensity and occasionally this issue appears.  thoughts? any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

I'd definitely recommend continuing the conversation with Tech Services - give your local ETC office a call. If they gave you a notification number, refer back to that when you call.

It sounds like the whole facepanel is having communication issues. This could be caused by a bad USB device taking down the USB bus or some internal problem. It also can be caused by a static discharge (though usually this is more common in the winter months). Regardless, we can help you with the next steps.

    Thanks!
