Simple Lightning (LED) outside a window (EOS on Nomad)

OK... Firstly--now here's an LD having to program his show. (please forgive me

I have a pair of Chauvet RGB bars US of the window flat. I need just a simple random few flashes of "white" lightning outside the window. (rather like a 2-step-based full/off in random order)

As I have to do this several times in the same scene--would rather not have to Follow/Hang a 1000 point-cues.

Since these are rather basic LED instruments--I'm not able to create the effect the way I think I should.

Reading about all these different Beam Palettes, etc... (not figured that out either... not on an LED bar... a mover, yes. )

Any help out there for my seemingly simple delimma--I miss the big budget days of having a programmer just whip these things up in just a few seconds... rather than me taking all night for one-step!

THX! Preston

  • For lightning, I like using three or four additional cue lists for the flashes. The flash sequences can fre off the main cue list with an Execute flag. I like the predictable rhythm of a cue sequence over the randomness of an effect.

  • You should be able to do this with intensity alone. Mix up a white colour to your liking, and have the fixtures in that colour in those cues. Then you could make an absolute effect with 2 steps very short times and dwells, one at full and one with zero intensity. Then select Attributes > Random Group. By default the 2 fixtures will work independently of each other - to make them be in sync, select a Grouping of 1.

Then, depending on what you want, you could set the duration of the effect to a fixed value, and indeed make multiple copies of the effect with different durations. Then fire these off in a cue as needed.

If you want more "off" time, either increase the dwell on the off step, or insert more off steps for a more randomised off time that will tend longer the more steps you add.
