Questions from a newbie

Background - We have an Element 60 board that was installed in our church by a "professional" company.  I received very little training and I am basically self taught.  I am the only person that can even attempt to program a service.  I have never touched a light control board until this one.

Setup - Element 60 - Initially 41 Channels w/ 8 movers, 8 dimmers, 26 LEDs - Recently added 10 Channels to control house lights - needing to add 6 more movers

How do I add a new fixture to an existing setup?  I have tried to follow the manual and apparently I am missing something.  It there any videos or further documentation showing this being done.  I am needing to add 6 channels for 6 movers  (chauvel intimidator 100).

During my initial "training" I was told to go to cue 1000 to basically clean everything out.  It would move all my movers to the home position and turn all lights to 0%.  With the addition of the 10 channels to control house lights, it no longer does this.  I have tried to restore cue 1000 from a backup and it doesn't fix the issue.  Should I use cue 0?

With our house light being integrated, our board now stays on all the time.  The installer programmed one of the SUB sliders to control them.  The problem is that if after a service, someone doesn't go to cue 0 now, when you move the slider for this SUB, the mover move.  Is the a more efferent way to do this?

I have a group of fixtures that do not respond to the intensity palate on the magic sheet.  How can I fix this?

Thanks in advance.  Yes we have this much lighting equipment (plus a hazer) in a church designed for around 500 people.  No I did not have any input or have the knowledge on deciding on this board and setup.  I spend at least 4 hours a week programming this board for 2 - 1 hour services.  I do not get paid and did I mention that I am pretty much self taught newbie.

  • Hi there,

Firstly, yes we do have a lot of training material available. There are video tutorials on the website here:

Tutorial 4b talks specifically about patching moving lights which is where you'll need to start to get your extra movers up and running. If you have the time I'd advise watching the tutorials from the begining rather than dipping in and out.

Cue 1000 is likley to be a cue recorded by your installer as a 'safe' cue for you to go to. Unfortunately none of the new stuff in your rig will automatically appear in that cue with the levels and positions you want without you putting it there. Once you have your new stuff patched, go into Cue 1000, manually set the levels for the new stuff - from the keypad or with the channel faders. You'll see the levels of the channels appear in red in the channel display. Now update the cue with these changes  - [Update] [Enter]

If any of your exisitng fixtures are in the wrong position, or at the wrong level in Cue 1000 be sure to set them to the right position/level before you update, then any of those issue will get fixed too.

All that said, there is possibly a better option. You've obviously already found Cue 0. Going to Cue 0 resets your cuelist to the top of the list and takes all intensities (which were being driven by the cuelist) to zero. A good 'end of day, turn everything off' state. You can take this one step further by using [Goto Cue] [Out] [Enter]. 'Cue Out' is similar to cue 0 but as well as taking all intensities out it will take any moving light parameters to their home positions.

Cue 0 and Cue Out will only affect channels which were getting information from the cuelist, so if you have some channels up on a submaster, they will stay at the level defined by the Sub.

It sounds like your houselight sub has accidentally got some moving light parameter information recored into it. If it only needs to contain your 10 houselight channels, then I'd suggest deleting the sub and starting again.

    [Delete] [sub] [x] [Enter]

Set your houselights to the desired level

Re-record the sub, but do it selectively so you only include the houselights. Start your command line with the numbers of the channels you want to include:

    [ y ] [thru] [ z ] [Record] [Sub] [x] [Enter]

Regarding your intensity palette problem, it's likely that there are just no levels recorded for those channel in that intensity pallete. To fix it, set the levels for those channels in Live from the keypad or the channel faders. To make sure you don't get anythign you don't want recorded in there do  selective update:

    [x] [Thru] [ y ] [Update] [IntensityPalette] [ z ] [Enter]

    Hope that helps

    Graham
