Feature Request

hi all

i am wondering about the possibility of implementing an IM system for Eos. By this i mean putting in a "simple" instant messaging/notes scheme.

I was doing a show recent with a couple of different networks interfaces incl main Console, RVI, RPU and a couple of clients.

I was the production chief and at times wanted to check information with the programmer. Due to a mixture of reasons, it was easier to come out to the desk to check stuff. I just felt that it would have been handy/better than shouting for me to pass on some simple requests and fault find from my client dongle at dimmer land. I know I could re-do patch items myself but I want to pass on this information to ops.

There are pro's and cons to this not least how this actually works from a software point of view.

This feature could double up as a notes function allowing information and jobs list to be passed on To others. One of the reasons being that often the comms system is full of traffic.

It could even be a magic sheet item allowing for live updating of notes and jobs etc.

what do people think?

  • Hey Eamon,
This has been a long standing request from users, that is the idea of having a chat function between users would be super useful. Something that I've seen programmers do in the past is create a magic sheet with multiple command lines that show. These are simply for typing messages to each other. Other options would be to have dummy targets that you put in the magic sheet that show the label of the target.
  • i would usually have a magic sheet 99, that is open in some screen section of all or most consoles. it has two wide text fields where you can write stuff. the background is a rectangle linked to the intensity of a dummy channel, so i have something that can blink to draw attention to something new i have written. the downside is that magic sheets' edit mode is not really multi-user compatible...
