ION Grandmaster behaviour

Another operator programmed a show and ran it.  At the end of the show he dropped the Grandmaster to 0 and then shutdown.  Later I started up and programmed another show, ran through all the cues, saved the show and shutdown.  The next day I started up, loaded my show and started to run it.  During all these actions the GM was at 0.  Part way through, I decided I needed to use the Grandmaster to temporarily fade a scene to black and then come back up.  At this point I noticed that the Grandmaster was at the zero setting (at no time was the LED in the Blackout button lit).  As soon as I started to raise the Grandmaster the stage went black and the LED in the Blackout button came on.  I raised the GM to full and normal operation resumed.

Is this a bug or a "feature"?

  • Well, most certainly not a feature.  I'm about to ask you to do something --- that a certain programmer/design in LA told me was the most hateful thing a manufacturer can do..... Can you please email your log file to eos@etcconnect.com, along with your showfile.  Please describe the circumstances in the email.

To access your log file, exit the Eos/Ion application (from the Browser, [Exit Eos/Ion].  This takes you to the shell (the tech writers have a fancier word for it, but I can never remember what that is, so..... ) Press [Settings] and the [Maintenance].  If you haven't already done so, make sure you have a flash drive installed.  Then press [Save Logs].  You'll be prompted from there.    If you could be so kind as to do this, we'll see if we can track down what might have happened.

If this should happen to you again (haven't heard this one before), it would be great if you could call tech support while still in that state.  I know that can be very hard to do.... but should circumstances permit.

    Thanks so much!

  • Hi Anne.

I have sent the files as requested.  Actually I can repeat this at anytime, here's how.

With any show loaded ensure some lights are on, lower the Grandmaster to zero, Exit and Shutdown.  Power on and the lights will come on as they were set before lowering the Grandmaster.  Move the Grandmaster from zero, the  lights will blackout and then the Grandmaster functions as normal.

  • Just to say, I have the same behaviour on my ion, happens any time the desk is turned on with the GM at any level - it appears that the console assumes that the fader is at full until you move it when it reverts to the correct level, I assume that it is reacting to a change event that triggers the gm event.
