Nomad M/S not showing fixture color

Nomad most current version on Dell laptop. Added some movers to my M/S on a venue two different ways and they both do the same thing. One way was to just click a fixture for each one, set up the addresses and visible information and click fill color to match fixture color.

The other way was to copy and paste from the first fixture and reassign the copies.

When I select all the fixtures, which are all the same brand, model, etc. and set them at full I see FL on each one. When I select a color only the first one shows the color. The others show white. I then manually selected the same color for all of the fixtures in ML Control and they all changed to the color. I then updated the color palette for each color however when I went back to the fixtures and used the color palettes only the first fixture turned color. The others remained white.

Unfortunately only have one of the actual fixtures running at this time as I build the Magic Sheet, therefore I can't verify all do actually go to the color, however the Live Table does show them all to represent the same settings.

I did change the one fixture to the second fixture dmx address and when I selected all fixtures at full and red, only the first fixture showed red on the M/S, the remaining fixtures showed white AND the physical fixture did not change to red. Therefore I then selected all fixtures again, picked Red on the M/S, went to the ML Control window and Red was highlighted but I picked it anyway then the physical #2 fixture turned red. I then did a record color palette 1 (Red) and when I did a gtc out, then selected all the fixtures again at full and picked red on the m/s all fixtures turned red on the m/s and the physical fixture also turned red.

It appears Update Color Palette is not actually updating.

Knowing me I'm sure it's something stupid easy but not getting it at this point. Is it perhaps I need to use Record Only to update the Color Palettes instead of Update, that way I don't get rid of what is already on them?

  • It sounds like you aren't updating all the channels into the color palette. If they weren't in there before, then you'll likely need to use Channel X Thru Y Update Color Palette Z.

You can always check what is recorded in the color palettes by pressing [Blind] [Color Palette] X Enter and looking at which channels have values and which are blank.

  • Thanks Hans,

I have them all in a group on the M/S. I would hit the group, they would all get the gold border but when I selected a color only the first one showed the color. I did originally use Record on that first color then realized, yikes, I just deleted all the other fixtures already in there. So I next used the group button, all the fixtures highlighted the gold border, I went to the ml control and selected that color then back to the MS and saw all the fixtures in the color, then I did update color palette # enter and when I was all finished and went back to check them, still only the first fixture showed the colors. I selected them all again using the group button, hit a color and the first fixture showed the color. I went back into the ml controls and that color was selected but I hit it again and did the same thing using update color palette # enter.
After a couple tries with that failing I did all the same thing but instead used Record Only and that worked. The next time I used the group and selected a color they all showed the color.
  • Part of your problem is, that a selection needs to be open (unterminated) when you apply the Record/Update command. if you press enter and thus get the golden tombstones, selection is terminated. Before any selective recording you have to either type the selection again or use Select Last. It's all happening in the command line...
