Different colors per "act"

I am using Tombstone in Magic Sheets. I have the color assignment linked to the fill. For standard fixtures (i.e., no NIPS or attributes) is there a way to change this assignment per "act" such as you would do for booms in a dance program?

  • Not sure I fully understand the question : but if the goal is have a graphical indicator that shows color on your magicsheet there are a couple you could do.

You could add a Part 2 to your fixtures that is a Generic RGB fixture and then assign colors to those fixtures per act.

You could also have a single channel that tracks a color thru a cuelist and then make some graphic (a box or big border) that would display that color.
  • There's no way to do it other then a work around like Patrick has suggested.
If it was me I'd just patch a scroller to the channel and make a scroll with the two colours.
  • My request is based off using Virtual Magic Sheet for about many years. Your reply is also the best solution I could come up with also. I was hoping there would be someway to handle this without requiring the 2nd part and tracking through a cue list. In VMS, I could assign colors such as: "Act 1@ R69, Act 2@ L197, Act3@ G380" etc. Then I would have an overall selection that would dictate what Act I was in.

Thanks to both of you for such a quick response!
  • Would duplicate magic sheets work for you? Just change the color of the affected symbols.
  • This seems like it could work too, could have a macro to change magic sheets at the designated cue to "change acts"
  • Act and scene breaks that display on the PSD are definitely on the list.  I'd expect this sort of behavior for magic sheets to be added after that.

If you go with the macro/multiple magic sheet idea, you're gonna have to update any changes to your MS twice.  And, if you jump from a cue in the middle of act 1 to a cue in the middle of act 2, your macro won't fire to swap the sheets.  I'd definitely use a virtual scroller or a virtual RGB device so this stuff tracks in the cues properly.

  • Thanks Paul--Glad to hear they are on the list. This was a wonderful feature of VMS. In fact, I'm not sure who to contact, but whoever "oversees" the Magic Sheet part of the program should take a good look at Virtual Magic Sheet. It had a lot of great features and ideas; unfortunately Eric didn't keep it updated and technology has passed it by.

Yeah, the macro and the multiple magic sheet concepts just seemed like they could be a lot of extra work in the end. I did indeed go with the "virtual" scroller idea. This is going to be part of our rep dance plot, so it currently is a bit more cumbersome than I'd like, but I will keep tweaking until the Act/scene break concept is developed and implemented within Magic Sheets.

Thanks again to all for the ideas and concepts.
  • With VMS you still had to manually change between acts, correct?  I would think that this scroller/generic RGB solution would be preferable to that.  Plus, it works in blind, which I don't believe VMS does.

I only used VMS a few times and I believe Eos MS does pretty much everything that VMS did.  But if there are specific features you are missing, please post them here.  More features are always welcome.

Soon, you will be able to enter gel color data for conventional fixtures in Eos patch, and then reference these colors for MS object fills.  If you would rather manually switch between acts, you could easily accomplish this with a macro that changes the color data stored in patch.  This functionality already works in the current beta of 2.3.2 (the next software release).  Just keep in mind that if you are live in an Act 1 cue, and you view an Act 2 cue in blind without running your macro first, your color data will be incorrect.
