Pandoras Box + automark

Hey :)

I asked this question @ the facebook group before, but maybe i will arrive more pandoras box+ eos users here :/

Problem:

First file on layer 1 and second file one layer 2. The third file on layer 1 again and the fourth on layer 2....and so on. All my clips are ( and have to be) in playback mode “ play once “. The last frame of clip one is the first frame of clip 2. For example: Clip one starts in cue 5 triggered by layer one, plays once and ends in its last frame. In cue 6 and 7 i tracked the layer with the “frozen“ frame. In the next cue i try to start the next clip one layer 2. BUT the clip does not start from the beginning it starts in its last frame.
It a problem with the automark. When jump between the cues without timing everything seems to be ok. The “automark cue“ start the clips. So the clip reached its end before the intensity comes up. I also try to use the sequenz patch which only triggers the timline but naturally i have the same problem.

Since now my workaround is to "steal" the marks by setting the layer @ 0,05% with a picture of the first frame of the next clip (Without this content the crossfade would be visible). With more then a handful of clips that gets really awfull an from my point of view no real solution! For cause its also not possible to turn of automark after programming to convert the automarks

Has anybody another solution or workaround?

And why it isn´t possible to disable the automark for individual devises or parameter?

Thank you and regards :)

Julian

  • Hi Julian

I don't know Pandoras Box (I know Catalyst & Hippo a little) do you not have the play mode option Play Once Intensity Above 0%?

You should also look at Reference Marking, you could then select the whole channel minus a parameter and mark that way.
  • and julian, yes the automarks will convert to referenced marks when you turn it off after programming (except on an Element where you can't generally turn off automark).
  • Hello again :D and thank you!
Yes, for sure it will convert. But that is no solution during the rehearsals ... unfortunately it is no way and solution for us to turn the automark of.
I changed the parameters to intens 1 thu x for now.
Why is there no way to disable the automark for each device!?
  • Automark is a very blunt tool which is why we have reference marking which gives you lots of control.
I agree this shouldn't be a show setting.
Looking at Pandoras box I'm surprised by their lack of playback options.

What is your setup, are you programming on the same file as lighting? As a different cuelist?
I think the easiest solution is to make a follow on cue which changes you play mode to Play Once, in the Marking Cue have the play mode as Stop. Or you could snap End frames.

I'm not sure how turning auto mark off for a parameter would help, wouldn't the play mode be tracking in play once?
  • Japp, i argree that there should be more playback options!
Unfortunately its not my decision to use only the Automark tool.
I am programming in the the same cuelist otherwise i could turn of the automark in each cue on the second playlist.
We programm in "cue only" so the parameters won´t be tracked but maybe i misunderstand what you mean?

  • Are you on a separate console, it would very easy to move your channels to another list., you'll then have may many more options available to you.

In Q Only mode you still have the tracking value of Play Once.
Cue 1 you play file 1, Play Once on layer 1.
Cue 2 you fade this layer out.
Cue 4 you want to play file 2 on layer 1, the play mode is still set to Play Once, it didn't return Stop in Cue 3, you've just changed the file.
  • Ah ok , yes!
But cue 3 then isn`t interesting for me because the changes for file 2 will happen in cue 4. hmm i dont get it !?
  • As I understand it the problem is in pandora because it's playing back a file even if intensity is at 0%.
In my example, auto mark would change the file in cue 3 and start it playing.

This means you're going to have to programming around this in Eos, which means I think you're going to me making lots of follow on's!
Working in a different cuelist which just has video channels is going to make your life easier in the long run, although you'll have another learning curve.
