Address control on Art-Net interface

Is there any way of controlling addresses on an Art-Net universe without patching the addresses to channels first?

I currently have an Art-Net node on universe 1 controlling house dimmers, and Net3 nodes on the other universes. It looks like I can only access the dimmers on universe 1 through Address 1/xxx if the dimmers are already patched to a channel assigned to Art-Net - which defeats most of the purpose of what I'm trying to do.

I tried assigning the un-patched Addresses to Art-Net interface in the Address format of Patch, but still I couldn't get them to respond to Address 1/xxx until they were patched to channels.

  • You need to set Art-Net to be a default in the shell. When you're patching them I'm guessing you're specifically changing them to output Art-Net only. Flashing an address outputs to the default protocols as assigned in the shell.

  • Thanks, Dan, I'll do that. I was trying to avoid making Art-Net a default protocol, just to minimise the network traffic, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

Also I guess that if I make Art-Net default, I could go through the patch and un-assign that interface from any channels that only need to be on sACN. Is is right to assume that any universe that has no channels assigned to Art-Net interface will not be streamed on Art-Net, even if that universe is streaming on sACN?
