Comparing two cuelists

Do you want to see the difference in each cue or just the maximum difference?
I assume the Live show is brighter then the broadcast show.

And out of interest why do you want to see the difference?

We do a lot of revivals with very little lighting time and we he some rather major changes to our rig. So on a revival we do all the work ( channel change FoH, change numbering of overheads to accommodate new units fitted in between old ones) on list 1. Most of the time now the changes are so big, that the old list 2 is useless, but for whatever reason the changes for TV on list 2 have not really been documented. So to have the possibility to see the differences would be fantastic. 
I know I could run off the cue moves report in MLA and compare them by hand, but thats a lot of paper and time.

The TV shows are not necessarily darker, they are just more even in contrast and the brightest and darkest scene are normally only 3 F-stops apart...

I've only have a quick look at this. Mr Duffy may point out a solution is already available.

What I think you need is the new 'Channels In Use' display data exported in the CSV's, when I had a quick look I don't think it is. This display gives you the highest value of each channel.

When with a bit exporting of 2 showfiles (with only 1 list in each export) you could then do a bit of copying and pasting and then some excel maths and you'll have the info you need.

Florian, would a simple compare feature in blind that let's you look at the content of two cues adjacent to one another work? Or are you specifically looking for a report that only quantifies the differences?

This image was produced by exporting 2 versions of the same showfile as USITT ASCII and using a third-party diff tool. I really like Beyond Compare by Scooter Software but there are others.

Using this approach it is possible to merge changes and then import the combined show file.

It is likely more difficult to align the differences if they come from 2 different show files.

Nice idea.

Even Word does a simple compare.

So I did a bit of brainstorming with a colleague of mine at work and we came up with a solution.....

1. Delete 2nd list
2. export it to FFP
3. Undo delete
4. Repeat steps 1-3 with List 2
5. Open file Level_Cue_Param_1 of list 1 in Excel
6. Copy Columns D,F,I to new spreadsheet
7. close file (Excel does not like to open two files with the same name)
8. Open same file for list 2 and copy underneath first set of data
9. In the data tab use [Remove Duplicates] (select all three columns)
10. E voila you are left with List 1 and all the way at the bottom of your spreadsheet with the differences to list 1
