Nomad Upgrade

Not really confusing. Your output count is solely determined by the dongle. You can still output your 512 parameters split to two DMX universes without any additional hardware. If you want to upgrade you 512 dongle to output 1024 parameters, you just buy a 512 upgrade.
Your dealer will for sure assit.
If you want to output more than two Dmx universes (which doesn't have to be more parameters), you either need gadgets or network nodes. This can be ETC or any sACN or artnet nodes.

Just forgot. It pretty clearly says on the wings specs that it doesn't output any parameters itself.
Basically, with the wing you get two physical outputs (or two gadgets so to to speak) you could even spread athe 256 parameters of a client dongle onto those two physical outputs.

thank you this is helpful. I know i can spread out my addresses ove rthe 2 universes, but i want i want to maximise the physical outputs on the Wing. So what i really need is a 512 upgrade. Now i happen to also have a gadget, so if i get up to 3 unverses by buying 2 more 512s to add to the one i have, can i plug the gadget into the wing, or computer to run the 3 universes?

Afaik you can plug the gadget into ur computer to output the 3rd universe. To be sure you may ask tech support or ur dealer or Ueli Rigg. If you want 1536 parameters you can buy a 1024 upgrade (totals 1536 with the 512 you already have). Don't know, but might be cheaper than two times 512

At what point do you say "that is enough usb dmx outputs" and buy a sACN device?

Jay, I don't understand your question. I personally would prefer a networking solution, but this is also a pricing question. If you got an wing and a gadget, I don't think its a bad idea to use those together if you want three physical outputs. So I just don't get your point....

I think Jay's point is made with simple math. A DMXKing eDMX4 MSRP is $299 and gives you 4 universes at slightly more than the MSRP of a single Gadget at $250. Granted nobody pays MSRP.

Understand that completely. But Robins question was if he can use the gadget he already has with the programming wing. So I still doesn't get Jays point or what should be wrong in using a device that's already there instead of buying more hardware.

That said, if I have the choice, I would go for networking devices.

I dont think Jay was being sarcastic or anything, it is a valid question.....well for me it just kinda evolved...Got the Gadget as an entry item to test Nomad, to decide whetehr to really make the investment in a wing. Nomad is great, so got the wing (Which i love) and now including Gadget, have 3 ports. i Agree if i do decide to go to a fourth which probably will never be absoulutely necessary, then a Node will be the better option. I use splitters from time to Time, but usually the rigs i work on, i can get by with no more than 2 universes. Most of my work is travelling around, theatres or small busking....so between 50-100 Dimmers, and 24 -30 Multi Parameter fixtures....Yeah unless i really want to break it out, Two 1024 is quite enough. But Money buys convenience, so maybe one day ill get anouther Uni upgrade and a Sacn device.
