RFR battery charging

Here's a question on the radio focus remote for the Ion and charging it's battery:

For 1 console, we'll be charging it frequently because we'll being using it 3 days a week. We'll charge it between events.

For our other venue, the RFR won't be used for months at a time. Should I find a secure place to hide it and plug it in, leaving it to trickle charge for 3 months, so should I lock it away, and assume/hope it will have power for the first day of tech when it is needed, and then it will be charged after that first day as normal?

Will the charge switch from charge mode to trickle mode once the battery is full, or will it keep CHARGING the full battery?

The RFR uses a pair of AA NiMH cells, so the basic rules on those apply.
If it's going into storage for a long time, the two options are:
Remove the batteries and store them with the RFR (Long-term storage, 6-8 months or more)
Leave the RFR switched off in a cool dry place (short and medium-term storage)
In either case, the best thing to do is to treat the RFR as if it was brand new when you take it out of storage, and charge it overnight the day before you need it.

Perhaps once a month or so you could swap remotes, or just the batteries, to provide equal wear and tear on them?
