Remote Access and Control of ION Console

I am working on an Exhibit and am in need of being able to monitor and control an ION remotely.

I am thinking that I can use a PC with the EOS software and network them. This would allow me to monitor the lighting console via screen share/VPN on the PC.

If I wanted to have control of the console I am assuming that I would need a ETCnomad key in order to change values via the PC.

Questions:

- Can anyone confirm that this will work?

- If I need a key, does it need to have the same amount to DMX addresses as the lighting console (ETC ION 1500, 3 universes)?

Thanks for anyone's help!

Cheers,

Joe

  • I did pretty much exactly this in 2010 with GotoMyPC (or maybe it was LogMeIn) for a display window in NYC.

PC had a client dongle and was connected to the Ion Network via ethernet.

Then the PC was connected to the internet via a USB Cellular stick. Screen share with the PC to view Ion Controls on the laptop.

If my memory is correct, I did have to edit the routing table on the PC so that the EOS software saw the lighting network, but the screen sharing app saw the USB Cell stick for internet.
