backing up Ion

I know this can cause many questions. Sorry. I have already used my Dell laptop with Nomad for a back up console. however for this show it just won't see the ION as primary. Actually there are no online masters found. Scratching my head. Just to make sure I have both running the same version software I did install both with the latest 2.3.3.9.0.10. Libraries might vary. Didn't want to upgrade them to possibly affect the show file. Not sure they matter.

I remember it was a pain getting it connected last time through Tech support and a few phone calls but since it has already been done I hoped someone might have some input here. Otherwise I will certainly call tech tomorrow. Show each night this week.

  • Library versions DO need to match. I would also double check that the firewall on your ETCNomad machine hasn't re-enabled itself after an update or some such occurrence.
  • If you're not even seeing the Ion in the list then it's nothing to do with software or library versions, that only has an impact when you attempt to connect. As well as checking the firewall you could also ensure the IP addresses are valid/within the same subnet. You could also check Multi-console is enabled in the Ion shell.

  • ION 11.19.54.9 ~ 255.255.255.0 ~ 11.19.54.1
    LapTop Lan 11.19.54.10 ~ 255.255.255.0 ~ 11.19.54.1
And I realize these are strange addresses but they are what I have been using for a very long time with my iPhone control. I seldom do a BackUp console so that's where I am getting stuck.
    Multi-Console is enabled
  • They are indeed strange IP addresses, in fact this might be the cause of your issue. Do you have WiFi on the laptop?

11.X is a routable public IP address on the internet and should never be used for private networks. If you have WiFi enabled then that IP will look to the gateway on your WiFi interface.

You should only ever use 192.168.X.X, 10.X.X.X or 172.16.X.X-172.31.X.X

    Cheers

    Dan

  • This address came from the systems engineer at my work who has been in the business for over 30 years. It's strange but I wanted to use something that no one would ever figure out in the ETC world just to help keep anyone from being able to hack and control/mess with a show using their iPhone while it is available. I know, way too over thought.
It all worked great on my last show but I will try changing addresses to something in your recommended range and see what happens.
One thought I just had though is I don't believe I have disabled WiFi on my laptop. Yikes. Can't wait to see if that was the problem all along.
Once I get this thing up and running you can bet I will have a check list in my console ready for every event, since I don't use back up very often and with my brain, well, you know.
