Ion Client Connection

Hello All,

I recieved my client dongle in the mail today and went to try it out.  But come to find out after a call to tech support that there needs to be, (what I think is), pretty substantial changes to the Network settings for my laptop.  I was thinking and hoping that the process would be a little simpler.  Are there any utilities that exist that allows a computer to have to network "profiles" and can be changed as needed.  The whole process seems a little putzy.

 Thanks,

Pat

ps  Is there written documentation anywhere as to the steps needed to make the network changes as I will probably lose what I have written down!

  • Pat, if your Ion is running its address server (Browser -> Exit Ion -> Network -- then look under Net3 Services) and your computer is setup for dhcp ("Obtain an IP address automatically") then you should be good to go.  The only other thing you might run afoul of is if your firewall is particularly draconian.

If you've got questions, give me a call.

  • I seem to really be having a time with this!  Yesterday, my laptop connected great to the Ion, but today I could not connect at all.  Here is what I know:

     *  On the console "Network" setup setting, my network adapter is "online"

    * Yesterday my laptop was turned on when I connected to the console and started the Ion client software...connected fine.

    * Today I tried the same thing, nothing.  Then restarted the computer while connected to console, still nothing.

*Yesterday when starting client software on my laptop, there would be a message like "Connecting to Master".

*Today, Client just starts up, and says "offline".

    * I have not changed any settings on the console nor networking settings on my laptop.

*Current console and clients software v1.4

    Thanks for any help!

  • This may seem like a silly question, but did you put the USB client dongle in your laptop? I have done that a couple of times and it drove me nuts trying to figure out why it wouldn't work right!!
  • When the client says "offline" there should be a button that says something to the effect of "Change Master" or something like that.  (Sorry I can't remember the exact phrase)  Click on that button and you should get a dialog box that shows your existing console.  Then just click on your console.  If you don't get your existing console in your list, then I will have to let the guys in tech support take your further, but give this a try.
