A collection of Ion gripes

I've been collecting a bunch of my Ion gripes over the last few weekends and put them together in one post.

Sometimes when using 5x10 or Slider Modules as the primary display, after issuing the first command (eg. Group 1 @ Colour Frame 2) the 5x10 primary display disappears and the channel display comes back up. Unable to reliably reproduce it, but it happens frequently (1 - 4 times a night)

When using 2 monitors, why is there no option to place virtual controls on the second monitor (other than in the CIA)? Alternatively, can I swap the channel display and cue list? Basically I would rather have the channel display than a cue list.

Where can I configure the displays to tell it that my displays are switched around? On my right hand monitor, I need to move the mouse all the way to the right, so that it crosses over to the left hand monitor.

The next 3 items deal with the following fixtures:
Mac 250 Entour
Chroma-Q Scrollers
X7 Xtra 7 LED cyc units

All fixtures are brand new, having been installed by a very reputable company in town 6 months ago. It seems strange that I should be having weirdness with all DMX capable fixtures, and I'm questioning the console's reliability.

Every so often the Mac 250 Entours will start to act funny, where the gobo wheel and colour wheels don't accurately reflect what DMX data I'm sending. I have presets for colours and gobos, and every so often the gobo and colours will come up wrong, by at least half a frame (the gobo is not fully in place). Resetting the fixture with lamp controls fixes the problem.

Scrollers seemed to have lost their calibration setting after the latest update; I needed to go through and re-calibrate them all so that the "gel saver" feature (where it slowly scrolls the gel back and forth) doesn't show up on stage.

Every now again one of our X7 Xtra 7 LED fixtures will stay at open white and won't change colour.  Restarting the console fixes the problem.

Occasionally the LCD screen on the console will freeze. Rebooting the console fixes this (hasn't happened in quite a while).

Using the top button (above the bump button) on a fader selects the submaster's channels, but only when it is at 0%, or if it's an inhibitive sub, at 100%. Why isn't it all the time?

Pressing stop/back, either on the master faders or from a fader wing resets *ALL* NPs values that I have manually set. Why? Is there a setting I can change to make my manual changes assert over the stop/back button?

[Edited to say that I've attached my showfile to this post]

If you Exit ION into the Shell you can go into Settings and change the External Monitor arrangement to lay out your monitors geographically. (Haven't tried this on ION lately but you do it that way on EOS, and I'm fairly sure it's the same)

With regard to your Chroma Q scrollers, we have several, and they are pretty bad at holding their positions if you don't have the tension just right. Might be worth a tweak.

  • I've tried changing the monitor settings in the Shell but it doesn't seem to make a difference one way or another.

Regarding the scrollers, I had them all set just in the right spot, then after the v1.4 update they were all equally out of sync. Can't explain what else might have happened.
