Grouping NPs in palletes

I would often include iris and edge/focus with pan and tilt for a POSITION focus point in Express.  I find this especially helpfull with instruments hung on the FOH.

How can I do this in Ion without having to record a FOCUS palete for pan/tilt and an accompanying BEAM palette for iris, edge?

I know I can record presets for this.  However, if I update the preset, will the update track through all cues using the preset?  [Just like a palette-referenced data]

  • Presets are indeed the tool to do this. You can use selective storing from the command line ([Focus] [Iris] [Edge] [Record/Record Only] [Preset] [n] [Enter]) to make sure only that data is stored in the preset (you probably don't want intensity in there).  Or, if these are the only used parameters other than intensity, you can [-] [Intensity] [Record Only] [Preset] [n] [Enter].  Or you can set filter states on those parameters to assure only they are stored.

Presets, just like IFCB palettes are referenced data.  If you want to set the lights to these defined positions in the preset, but don't want the preset recorded in the cue, you can select the channels and press [Make Abs] [Enter] (short for Make Absolute).  If you store the preset into the cue, but don't want the preset to be updated when you make a modification at a cue level, you can press [Update] [Make Absolute] [Enter].  This is from the CIA Update Dialogue box.  Note that the last method that you used to update will be used on the next update command.

    Hope this helps.
