Ion touch screen 1 or 2?

I had a long time client call with trouble setting up their new Ion with new touchscreens.

  • Is the Ion limited to 1 touchscreen? Nothing says that specifically, but it doesn't clearly say only 1.
  • The monitors themselves seem to be working fine, but they aren't Window certified compatible. Is that still an issue? I can get either to work fine, but not both.

  • Hi Rick,

What revision of Ion does this client have? If it's a Windows XP one (DVI Y-split or 2x DVI with 1 network port), it will only support ELO or ETC 5-wire resistive screens. If it's a Windows 7 one (DVI and Displayport, 2 network ports), it will support any touchscreen that's Windows 7 compatible (a far wider range than the above).

However I've seen something similar to this problem before, and that was a user trying to use 2x old resistive touchscreens with a Windows 7 Ion. This shouldn't really work at all, but in fact allowed one or the other but not both to function as touchscreens. Could this be the problem?

  • The Ion is new out of the box this week. I didn't right down the serial #.

The monitors are Dell S2240T and I can't find anything saying 'certified.' Dell tech support finally got someone to say there are Win7 drivers on the disk. It was a reminder of how nice it is to work with you folks!

So I take it the answer is 2 touchscreens is supported, as I always thought. I just needed the confirmation before telling the client he made a mistake.
  • can you describe aa bit more closely what the problem is? touching one worksworks, does the movement show up on the other monitor, does it show up on the correct one but out of place, does none of the two react to touch?
  • Sure, since I'm not in front of the console this is from memory-

When I got there they had is so touching #1 activated based on what was showing on #2. That would a "nice" trick to pull on someone with some time to solve it.

They have 2 identical monitors. In monitor arrangement both show and act normally. When configuring the touch section the message reads to touch the monitor to set is as THE touchscreen. Doing so closes that display, returning to monitor config. Hitting enter (as the message says,) puts the message on the other screen and touching that sets #2 as THE touchscreen. So either monitor will function but I can't get both to work simultaneously. Touching the opposite monitor is obviously how they got cross connected as above.

For future reference in might be nice to have some manual or support documentation for this entire process. The new hardware was in V2.2 and the supplement just says Win 7/8 monitors are supported. Nothing clearly describes the selection or calibration process.
