ETC Ion and WYSIWYG

HI all

I have a query re using an ETC ion and wysiwyg.

I have a large show coming up where we are using an Eos Ti for the main plotting and that is all fine.

A request has come into do some previz programming and wyg has been settled on as the main option.

Due to the usual finance, we are looking to do the pre-plotting with wyg on an ETC Ion. This being readily available & financially affordable.

My question is with regard to the channel count of the desk:

Does it matter that the desk (tbc from hire co) could be a different channel count to the main Eos Ti and how do you "access" the universes. We are looking at approx 6+ universes of control and I am unsure how wyg and the Ion would handle this?

I am just wanting to head off any possible conflict and waste of people's time with messy pre-plotting. I am aware that there is 32 universe control via artnet but as having never used wyg, I am unsure how it will handle a large show on the ion etc. I am not sure if I answering my own question here.

I figured I would ask here as the question is more eos related than with cast software

I would be grateful for any hints or tips in this area.

many thanks

Eamon

  • All ETC consoles count patched output addresses when calculating allowed channel count. So if you rent a 1K Ion you can output all the artnet Universes you like - but after the 1024th patched address output will not occur. So if you have 100 addresses per universe you can use 10 universes - for example.

6 universes isn't particularly large - but older Ions might have some processing issues especially if

    1) Most of that is LED
    2) There are a lot of continuous FX
    3) you are using Hue Sat mode through the console (for lots of LED)
    4) you have large magicsheets and stuff.

If it were me I'd look for a 3K Win 7 Ion - the upgraded one - or a GIO of any generation. Otherwise you are maybe wasting your time...
  • Hi Patrick

    Many thanks for that.

It is what I have figured. I have managed to secure another console that can do the job so all is good.

Thanks for the tips and info.
