Other Handles I Miss

First, Steve B and BWTRX have a good point about Supermasters.  I can see where they'd be useful.

Currently, I'm trying to get my head around getting into and out of Effects gracefully live.  Luckily in hip hop dance school world grace doesn't matter a whole lot.  Everybody knows that I really want Effects on handles.  I know its being worked on, and I can see that its more complicated than I thought- step effects are obvious, but I wonder about about the absolutes and linears which I am really digging.  Anyway, at this point, I'm thinking that I would like an Effects Master so I could fade all effects up and down together in a more appropriate time without having to plan ahead with fade times.

Another feature an old ex favorite console had was a Bump Level Master.  Sometimes I want my bumps to be subtle, sometimes I want them to start low and get brighter.

just some wishful thinking...

  • Hey Brent

Hope you're doing well.  Regarding getting into and out of effects gracefully - If you place the chans on an inhibitive sub you will be able to fade them in & out as you require.  Another thought, place the different effects in seperate cue lists and make the handle an I master instead of proportional.

The inhibit works a treat, and I've had some success by putting the effects into cuelists and using the handle as an I-master.  Hope that provides some food for thought

  • Brent,  I'm doing very well thanks.

Inhibs is a great idea.  So great I've already tried it.  Problem is though if the lights to be 'effected' are already supposed to be up on stage.

I have been pretty excited about the new I--master thing but haven't had the time to try it yet.  The problem with that is that I'm entirely inexperienced in working with multible cue lists.  I guess I'll just buck it up and ask the forum.  I'd appreciate your input on the new post I'm about to write...

  • Hey Brent

Had a play around with effects on multiple lists.  If you wanted to recreate an Effect-on-a-Sub kind of thing, i've found if you record these chans with the effect running into a seperate cuelist and then put those lists on handles, you can then fade the effect in/out (so long as you have made the fader an I-Master)

I only tried this with liner effects (a chase sequence using the sine wave thingo) so can't say how absolute or step effects will behave, but I did find that I had to put the chans with the effect on them at 1%.  Without the chans having an intensity recorded, then the effect faded in by itself.  Having the chan at 1% meant I could manually fade the effect in (oh yeah, make sure you set the cue time to Manual)

     Hope that helps

    Cheers
