2.4 Co-operating with client on large format show

On a large show we had two desks. One EOS classic setup as a master and one Nomad with Programming Wing with a different ID, setup as a client.

We decided to both point half of the lights for a Position Palette or a preset and then when everything was done one of us would Record the preset. Only halfway into the process we discovered that only the fixtures that were actually touched by the person who was recording them were saved in the preset. They didn't record despite the fact that the fixtures were red on both screens. It turned out that they were not as red, but a little bit paler red for the channels that were touched by the other desk. We had to make those channels manual in order to save them all into the preset. For this we couldn't use Select active though. So it involved a lot of typing.

Another thing was that the highlight/lowlight preset was not behaving correctly if you were both using that functionality (even with totally different groups selected and then pressing Next)

Is there anything we could have done better/easier/faster?

  • where you in different partitions?
other than that i can't explain what you've seen. i've done similar stuff before and it works flawlessly.
  • We were in the same partition. The only thing was that we didn't want to share the command line, so we put our desks on different user ID's

  • i have this work countless times in the past (unless i'm misunderstanding...). the only thing that needs a bit of organisation is that manual channels (red values) that are still selected will not listen to cues. so if you record, clear your selection (but the other other programmer doesn't deselect) and press Go, the other programmers channels (red and still selected) will not move. the were recorded but didn't move.
you should see that the red (i.e. your values) and darker red (i.e. other user's values) values all say Pr1 after recording them.

so my experience is, that this works, but could cause a bit of trouble in the moments after recording.

what syntax did you use to record?
