Write Protect

I have a customer who would like to be able to write protect a file.  They have a rep plot and basic patch that they work from all the time.  They would like to be able to save a desk setup as "Default" and then be able to not let anyone write over this.  I know that security settings are forthcoming (1.5?) and am just wondering if something like this will be part of the offering?

If not, is there a way to do this?  I am guessing that I could take the file to a PC offline and make it read only, but I don't know how the OS will react to that....

Any thoughts?

I know exactly what your client has in mind and certainly raises a valid point.  I can only speak from the perspective of a v5 Congo user.  However, if the file is stored locally...you have some issues.  The file is not able to be saved locally with read only attributes...sure it can be loaded, imported into the console, but when it is then saved locally it 'loses' the read only attribute.  However, there is a work around.

[ ETC EMPLOYEES PLEASE STOP READING ] - lol

Once you have the file saved locally.  Do the following:

Press [CTRL] + [ALT] + [DELETE]
    Select the {Task Manager} button
    At the upper right top corner of the newly opened window select {File} and then {New Task (Run...)}
Select the {Browse...} button in the newly opened window
Using the drop down arrow of the Files of type: box please select All Files
Then navigate to the folder that contains the desired file
    Right Click on that file
    Select Properties
In the newly opened window at the bottom of it - check the Read-only box
    Press the {Apply} button
Close out of all of the open windows
Proceed back to the normal OS of the console

When an attempt is made to Overwrite this file a window should 'pop' up indicating that the file is write protected

Please forgive me if I am insulting your intelligence...just wanted to make certain that both you and your client (mainly the client - as I am sure you understand) follow me.

Again, realize that this is for v5 Congo, but it has not given any problems as I use a standard house/hang plot myself.  However, this I can't imagine would cause issues in Eos/Ion being 'WINDOWS' based, yes?  I would assume that the [CTRL] + [ALT] + [DELETE] is usuable.

I am sure there are other work arounds - that may even be simpler.  I just have not tried to experiment that much - nor probably should I...

For me this was the quickest and most logical approach for my needs.

I don't believe that you can get to the Windows base the same way in EOS/ION as you do in CONGO.  But I understand the concepts that you are trying here and may be valid, but I was hoping for something in the actual EOS/ION Operating System rather than having to go through the work around....

I think that the easiest solution in this instance is to load the show from a USB stick, but then pull it before it can be saved/overwritten...  at least for the time being.
