Non - Dim

Hi there

Just wanted some clarification on exactly what non - dim does?  From what I can tell, it essentially makes a channel not possible to turn off.  Is this correct?  I'm use to a non-dim channel being one where you can have the channel either at 0 or at FL, and you set a threshold point so that if the chan is below that value, then it is off, and if it is at or above the threshold value, then it is at full

I noticed in the curve section that there is a curve labeled 'hot patch" which would do the exact same thing as the current non-dim.

This might just be me, but it seems a bit pointless having the non-dim setting in it's current form.  Not quite sure what I'd use if for.  If i wanted something to be on all the time i'd just put it into a standard AC outlet or into a distro board.

I currently have some mirrorballs (with motors) on the show I am working on, and would have found the non-dim feature useful if I could take the chan to 0.  Currently, I have a curve assigned to the channel which has the chan @ FL from 80 upwards, and at 0 for below 80.  Is there any chance of getting a non-dim that behaves this way sometime in the future?

Appologise for the rant - I'm just a bit bemused as to when someone would use the non-dim setting in its current form.

  • Agree.... it's been on the list to take the non-dim out of the library... since you can't set a trigger point for it.  Best to use a curve.

     Keep ranting.... reminds us of stuff we've yet to do :-)

    Would there be any possibility of keeping the non-dim and being able to set a trigger point?  The reason I ask is there have been a few times I've used 3 dimmers to drive a non-dim chan instead of 1 and since the curve part of the patch is on the attributes page, there have been a couple of times I've forgotten to apply the curve to the new parts of the channel that have been created.  If it displayed non-dim in the type column, it might be a bit more obvious and I'd be less likely to remember......
