Shutting down the RPU

Hi all,

I'm new to the EOS and could use some input.  I just hooked up my RPU to the system.  The RPU is acting as the master and the EOS as the backup.  my problem is turning off the RPU.  so far I have found 3 options.  I can hook up a mouse and monitor and use the CIA to select "power down console", I could program a macro to do this and then assign it to a button on the front and then assign another button on the front to be [Enter] to complete the shutdown request, or I could hold down the power button and force the thing to shut down.

The first option isn't that appealing because I would rather not have an expensive LCD monitor sitting there for the sole purpose of turning the thing off.  option 3 isn't a good idea since it's bad for the console to be forced to turn off.  Option 2 would work ok I suppose, although I'm not sure I like the idea of a shutdown macro right on the facepannel of the RPU where any number of people could bump it.  not to mention I would have to make sure that macro is always programmed in.

for those of you with RPU's in their systems, how do you handle this?  Since I will pretty much always be running my system with the RPU as master and EOS as backup, it would make sense for there to be an option in the browser that would tell both consoles to power down.

  • Hi Dan,

I use a solution suggested by Luke Delwiche which may work for you. My monitors have both analogue and digital inputs, Eos takes the digital ones and the RPU goes into the 1st monitor analogue. When you shut eos down the monitor automatically switches to the RPU display so its quite quick and neat.
