StudioColor to MAC2000 Wash patching failed in controls

Hey there,

I have a show which uses HighEnd StudioColors. I programmed this on the Ion. In a different venue I had to use MAC2000 Washes. I just patched the light to the channels and all of it seemed to work. But in cues the lamps of the mac2000's switched off all the time. When using the lampcontrols to bring it up it would strike but switch off after a second or 4, which was very annoying and what was the problem?

We found that the MAC2000 uses its strobe/shutter channel also for lampcontrols. There it went wrong. Shutter open is a dmx value of 255. For a MAC2000 Wash its a dmx value of 40. The board did not convert the value's for the MAC2000's.

The question: should it or  shouldn't it. I think it should, but I wonder what you are thinking?

 Thanks,

  • I think it should convert.  After having a think about it, I think (and I may be incorrect) the problem isn't in conversion, (i would assume that if you were to patch in a mac2k wash and send it home, the shutter would be sent to the correct value), but the issue is that the shutter/strobe value is recorded into cues as absolute data.

Therefore, even when you change the fixture, the cue still is telling the lamp to be at shutter value 255.  This is also because, when you send a fixture "home" and record it into the cue, it is recording absolute data.  Even when using a home preset, it is still recording the absolute data, and not referencing the preset.

ETC: would it be possible to have your home preset be recorded into cues as referenced data.  That way if you change a fixture, you can make alterations to the home preset and this will carry through all cue lists.  I can think of a few instances where I have wanted to change the home value for pan & tilt while I've been on tour (eg, the VL's on the Orch Truss are getting in the way of FOH shots, so I want to have them pointing at the stage as their home position).  This would be a fast and easy way to be able to do this without having to go through the show and find all the instances where you need to make the change.

If this were to happen, I would suggest that [Update] does not update back to home preset.  Would like to hear other peoples thoughts on the matter.

    Cheers
