Adding channels to an intensity palette

Let's say I have a show which is all conventionals for simplicity's sake. I've set up my scene building blocks, and selectively recorded them into intensity palettes, so I can then recall one or more palettes to build my look, and recorded the cues. So far so good. Then I decide that one of the palettes needs an channel added to it, so I set the level and amend the palette.

Now, unless I've missed something (and I freely admit that's highly likely) adding that channel to the palette doesn't add it to all the cues already recorded, only if I recall the palette to record a new cue, or go through the cues in blind and recall the palette again where it's used.

Does it make a difference how I update the palette. I have updated them by going into the blind editor and adding the channel, and I've done it by recalling the palette, wheeling up the new channel, selecting the relevant channels and rerecording the palette. Should instead update the palette.

I'm open to suggestions, as this must be a not uncommon requirement, and I'm sure those more experienced with the board than me have a way to do this quickly.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Alister,

You're quite right, updating a palette will never make cues go to that palette just because other members of the palette are (if I'm understanding you correctly). So you have Chans 1 thru 5 in IP1, and they're used together throughout the show, then you decide to add Chan 6 to IP1, and would like it to join in in the cues?

The method of updating makes no difference - editing in blind, updating or selective recording all put new information in the palette, but don't do anything to the cues. This is mostly the desired behaviour.

To do what you're asking, I would personally go into Blind, select all the cues [Cue 1 Thru 200 Enter], then do [Chan 6 RecallFrom Chan 5].

Because Chan 5 is palettised in the cues, it'll be IP1 that's recalled, not the hard value, and Chan 6 will have its own IP1 value. Note that in cues where 5 has a hard value or no value, 6 will copy these instead.

    Hope that helps.
