Using SFX midi commands

How do I use SFX midi commands to fire macros on the EOS?  The SFX doesn't have MSC, and the sound boys don't want to install it in case it creates problems for them.  Is it possible to use midi commands?  I couldn't find any information in the manual or from any other EOS programmers...  It's a bit of a dark art.

Thanks if any of you can help....

  • Hi Beky,

I recently spoke with Dennis at ETC about this issue as I was investigating the same thing. Here's what he said:

"At this time the only MIDI we support is Show Control and Time Code. We
have no plans to support MIDI note functions. If we get more requests,
we will consider adding it in a future release. "

    Also:

"If their (SND department) gear will send MIDI SysEx commands, then we can probably help them to send commands to Eos. "

I don't know much about MIDI, as you say, it is a dark art! Although we don't need to use it right now, in future our Head of Sound has said he can send us MSC via other software such as Q-Lab, which I believe has MSC incorporated as standard, unlike SFX. I think I know what you are trying to achieve from the 500 series, but I think you can probably do what you need on EOS with MSC.

I guess it all depends how accommodating our friendly noise boys/girls are!

If anyone else out there can't persuade the Sound guys to change their ways perhaps we do need to ask ETC if they can expand the MIDI note options....?

    Graham.

  • Thanks for that info Graham.  The noise boys are on SFX5, and know that SFX6 which supports MSC is very unstable so won't (understandably) install it.

I suppose we'll cut the doorbell effects!
