how to turn on sounds

Question

Hey there, 
 never used it before but a customer asked me to switch on the error sound. I wasn't able to help him... 
 setup - desk - face panel - turn sounds on - setting a level - testbutton - nothing! 
 it was on an ION (win7) with 2.4.1.9. 
 also tried that on nomad 2.5.0.9 on a mac. 
 What am i missing? any setting in shell?

Ueli is correct - Ion (and Element) with Windows 7 hardware doesn't have a speaker to make sound. 
 
It does seem that v2.5.0 for Macs is not playing sounds though. We will investigate.

You could use the audio out on the rear-panel (mini-jack) and connect a small speaker if you really want the sounds. You might have to change the default audio out in the windows setting though...but it works, just tested it on a Win 7 Ion here.

The Mac issue was fixed in 3.2.3.

To clear up, it seems like Mac hasn't had sound since v2.4.0 SCR 40037 is open for this.
