2.5 New graphical shuttering tools - Can they be accessed on an ETC Element?

As there isn't an Encoder Page on an ETC Element is there a way to view these graphics another way?  We have ten Vari-Lite VL 1100's in our regular rig and this would make using the shutters much more intuitive.

If not, would you consider adding the graphical shuttering tools to tab 5 ML Controls on a future software release?

  • Hello,

It's possible to open the Gio Encoder Displays on an Element (or Element mode on ETCnomad) using the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+\

Unfortunately, it appears there's a bug in Element that keeps you from changing Encoder Pages, so you won't be able to get to the Shutter tool. Until that bug is resolved, I'm afraid there's not a way to use this new tool on Element. Sorry about that.
  • Ah well, it was worth asking. Thank you.
  • In 2.5.1 (beta build link at top of this forum), on Element, you can type
[Control Alt \] opens encoder display in CIA
[Alt Comma] changes encoder display to shutter mode

And learning this into a macro also works.
  • Thanks Dan,

I just updated Nomad on one laptop to 2.5.1.1.0.15 and created a macro for [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [\] and put a button on a Magic Sheet. I played around a bit and it all seems to work fine. Shutter display opens and I can use the mouse to drag the shutters around. I can have the ML Controls tab open on another screen and I can see the graphic on the encoder screen move as I use the virtual encoders on the ML tab and vice versa. Cool!

I don't suppose there is a way to insert the Shutter Control Graphic Display into a Magic Sheet? ;-)

The next show opens this Monday with an inexperienced operator running the show (and me not there) so I don't think I'll load 2.5.1 on the theatre's Element until the run is over. But this is great, it should make working with shutters much quicker with the graphic when I start to program the next one in a week or so.

A couple of the Encoder Buttons on the display, the [Angle Home], the [Thrust Home], and the [A>D] buttons also work. As I don't have encoders on an Element, the other don't do anything, correct?
